Our major race sponsor this year was the Hillsdale Community Health Center, promoting good health throughout Hillsdale County.?
The race was also sponsored by Arrow Swift Printing, the Scholl Insurance Agency, Walton Chiropractic, Watkins Citgo Oil,
John Waldvogel and Edward Jones, the Gossage Eye Institute, Dr. John Taylor, the Finish Line Restaurant, and Frank Beck Cheverolet.
In overcast 60 degree weather, twelve year old Brock Eves of Hillsdale was the winner of the 35^th Annual Hillsdale Labor Day
5,000 meter road race held at Hillsdale?s scenic Sandy Beach.? Brock?s win established once again the uniqueness of the race in which
each participant is given a head start based on gender and age.? The oldest runners this year were 66 year olds, Gerald Shaner of Hillsdale
?and Don Lindley of Fort Wayne, Indiana.? The youngest runner was 9 year old Katherine Weeden of Saline. The fastest overall male time
was run by Tom Romanowski of Hudson (17:30) and the fastest overall female time was run by Shannon Bowles, former Hillsdale High
?School standout and now living in Fort Wayne, Indiana (18:44).
Awards were presented to the top 25 finishers. All additional proceeds benefit the student-athletes of the
Hillsdale High School Cross Country teams.
